Ken Haycock & Associates

Ken Haycock & Associates was incorporated in 1991 after several years of practice. It grew into a team of associates and staff. The primary focus was on board governance, organizational reviews, leader development, and executive search. Dr. Haycock made several presentations each year weaving evidence and research into newer priorities and practices for effectiveness.

 

His current focus is on board governance in the not-for-profit (for impact) sector, influence in political decision-making, individual leader development and philanthropy, leveraging individual giving for group impact.

Ken Haycock has been a senior partner of Ken Haycock & Associates Inc. since its incorporation in 1991. Prior to that, he was an independent consultant and senior administrator. Dr. Haycock is currently Research Professor (honorary) at the University of Southern California; he was formerly research professor in Management and Organization at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California. Dr. Haycock is also professor emeritus and former director at San Jose School of Library and Information Science, the largest in the world, and at the University of British Columbia School of Library, Archival and Information Studies. He was also the Follett Chair in Library and Information Science, then one of only four endowed chairs in LIS in the U.S., at Dominican University and adjunct professor at Australia’s Queensland University of Technology. Prior to moving to higher education, Ken Haycock was a member of the senior management team at the Vancouver (British Columbia) School Board, a $700m not-for-profit agency, responsible for program development and implementation, resources and technologies, and staff development and training for 7,000 employees in 115 locations.

Dr. Haycock has worked in a wide variety of environments: CEO of a large regional public library system, external review panels for major universities and museums, coordinator of school and corporate libraries, public library trustee, elected school board trustee and chair as well as an elected municipal councillor. He has also been chancellor of a public university and president of many national and international associations. A prolific writer and engaging speaker, Ken Haycock appears on several programs each year.

 

Dr. Haycock has held several research grants and contracts and is the recipient of many significant professional honors and awards for research, teaching and service, including from the American Library Association, the Canadian Library Association, the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal for contributions to society and, from the Association for Library and Information Science Education, awards for distinguished contributions to graduate professional education. He holds a D.Litt. from Capilano University.

 

Ken Haycock received a B.A. (Political Science) and post-baccalaureate Diploma (Education) from the University of Western Ontario, a M.Ed. (Curriculum) from the University of Ottawa, an A.M.L.S. from the University of Michigan, an M.B.A. from Royal Roads University and an Ed.D. (Leadership and Administration) from Brigham Young University.

 

In his consulting business, he has worked with several dozen for profit and not-for-profit organizations on effective governance, program reviews, executive search, strategic and organizational reviews, human resources issues and staff development. Clients include large urban public libraries, university libraries, large and small not-for-profit boards, law firms, school districts and colleges.
